5 things to know before you buy a satin robe set

Most robe sets are bought on one photograph. This one deserves five minutes. Here is what we would tell a friend before she ordered.

It is satin, not silk — and we say so on the label

First Light is cut from a high-density light satin, 121–140 g/m². That weight is the whole point: it has enough body to drape instead of cling, and enough sheen to read as silk in a photograph without the silk price or the silk fragility. If you want real mulberry silk, we make that too — it is called The Real Thing and it costs more for a reason. Choose on purpose, not by accident.

The lace is lined, so only the soft side touches you

Every lace panel — the robe's crossover, the slip's cups — sits on a soft lining. Nothing scratchy touches skin. Customers keep writing the same sentence back to us: "it sounds itchy on paper, it isn't." We would rather you know before you order than be relieved after.

The slip does the shaping. The robe just wraps.

Two sizes, M and L, and the same size for both pieces. M fits about US 2–6; L about 6–8. Between the two, take the L — the robe's wide sleeves and tie belt forgive everything, and a slip that is a touch loose falls better than one that pulls. Aniya's own note: "the sleeves are wide by design; cooking in them is a hazard."

Champagne photographs warmer than Mauve, in real life too

Champagne is a pale gold that reads ivory in daylight and gold under a lamp. Mauve is a dusty rose-grey, quieter, less bridal. The photographs are colour-true — no filters that flatter — because a colour surprise is the most common reason a set comes back, and we would rather it never left.

Treat it like something you plan to keep

Satin bruises easily. A cool hand-wash, no wringing, hang both pieces to dry out of the sun, and steam a crease rather than pressing it. Done that way, the set stays a set for years.
